Abstract

Shoola is the dominating condition which leads the people to seek the physician. The term shoola generally refers to the pain, which is an unpleasant sensation produced due to the nerve damage. Bhavaprakash mentions several drugs acting on shoola. The present study is designed to screen the drugs with shoola related karma i.e, shoolahara, shoolagna, shoolahanti, shoolanasana etc from the Bhavaprakash Nighantu. A thorough and comprehensive review of Bhavaprakash Nighantu, Ayurveda classics, contemporary texts, online journals and internet materials has been done. Out of 426 drugs, 64 drugs have been described having the properties of pacifying the shoola; were scattered throughout the text, which includes herb, mineral and animal origin. Major drugs contributing to shoolahara karma are of Haritakyadi varga and Guduchyadi varga .
